Experiments

Having discussed my work with my tutors I had expressed that I was not too keen on the background of my photographs. I had tried to do a bit of editing on Photoshop but all the outcomes weren't very good and I wasn't happy with any of them.
I had been thinking about my earlier work and the image I had combined with a Stan Brakhage still that had been bleached. I decided that I would really like to incorporate bleaching into my work somehow as I think that it gives the photograph something extra, and this could be what I felt my photographs were lacking. This was going to be a big issue since that I had taken my photographs digitally and would not be able to bleach any negatives.
I decided to take some old prints that I had into the darkroom and have a play about with some developer to see if anything would happen to them. I left the prints in the solution for quite a while but unfortunately nothing happened.
Once I got home I decided to use some strong household bleach mixed with water to see what the outcome would be. I soaked a tissue and wiped it over the top of the images and also used a paintbrush for some other parts.

On a few of the images I had washed them afterwards. This took a lot of the colouring out of them which is not the look that I wanted to achieve.
I had seen a video on YouTube where someone had varnished part of the photograph that he wanted to keep so I think I will try this so I can be more selective on the areas that fade.
I think that this technique will work quite well due to the subjects within my photographs and in relation to the music that they listen to.
